The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1
Charms differ from Transfiguring Spells in the following manner: a charm adds certain properties to an object or creature, whereas a transfiguring spell will change it into something utterly different.
The lesser charms are not very difficult to break and many of those that you learn as a young wizard will wear off in a matter of days or even hours.
Dark charms are known as jinxes, hexes and curses. This book does not deal with such spells.
Lapses in concentration while charming can result in painful side effects – remember Wizard Baruffio, who said ‘s’ instead of ‘f’ and found himself lying on the floor with a buffalo on his chest.
Some charms will be ineffective on large creatures such as trolls, whose hides repel all but the more powerful spells.

Lesson 1
(Lumos) The Wand-Lighting Charm
To illuminate the end of a wand, the caster must call out the incantation "Lumos." If correctly incanted, the end of the wand will then illuminate and cast light in the immediate vicinity of the caster. It can also be used to illuminate unseen entrances.
One of the simplest yet most useful light-creation spells, the Wand-Lighting Charm's principal usage is to create a light at the tip of the wand in order to see in the dark. This light is fairly warm, and the caster risks igniting flammable things, including the caster's wand if they are careless enough.
Wand light is also able to repel ghosts and other spectral foes such as Gytrashes, from which they will flee. In addition, the Wand-Lighting Charm is able to illuminate and reveal magically hidden architecture such as doorways.
While the caster, by definition, has to own a wand in order to perform the charm, they do not actually have to be holding it in order to illuminate it. Indeed, if the caster performed the charm without holding their wand, their wand would light up even if it was some distance away.
The counter-charm for the spell is the Wand-Extinguishing Charm (Nox), which is used to extinguish the light from the cast
Lesson 2
Spongify (Softening Charm)
This Charm can make any object squishy and springy. This charm can be used to enchant Carpets, which could then be used to propel an individual high into the air when jumped on. To use this charm, aim at an object, and wave your wand in a spiral motion, while saying the incantation Spongify. When you jump on the object you will be launched into the air, so make sure you are very careful.

Lesson 3
(Diffindo) Severing Charm
With the Severing Charm, cutting or tearing objects is a simple matter of wand control. The spell can be quite precise in skilled hands, and the Severing Charm is widely used in a variety of wizarding trades. Useful as it is, this charm should be practised with caution, as a careless swipe of the wand can cause injury. To use this charm, point at the object you are wanting to sever, and say the incantation "Diffindo".
Lesson 4
(Incendio) Fire making spell
From lighting a warm hearth to igniting a Christmas pudding, the Fire-Making Spell is always useful around the wizarding household. However, the ability to produce fire with the flick of a wand can be dangerous to your fellow students (and worse, your books). To ignite your wand, wave your wand in a fire shape and say the incantation Incendio. Be very careful not to set you or your classmates on fire.

About me
Alohomora
Alohomora ,also known as the Unlocking Spell or the Thief's Friend is a charm that unlocks objects such as doors or windows. It is also able to open doors locked by the Locking Spell (Colloportus), and as such, acts as its counter-charm. The Anti-Alohomora Charm could be used to prevent this charm from working on a locked target.
tap the lock with your wand and say the incantation Alohomora.
Lesson 5
(Wingardium Leviosa) levitation charm
The Levitation Charm is one of the first spells learnt by any young witch or wizard. With the charm a witch or wizard can make things fly with the flick of a wand. The charm is an excellent test of your magical skills, wand control and above all, patience. This charm ought not to be seen as a joke spell. It can be most useful in duels and can lift physical obstacles and can even Levitate small creatures (though this is likely to confuse any poor animal and is certainly not to be encouraged). Despite its strengths, however, the Levitation Charm had one fatal flaw: it did not work on human beings. Though a human could be levitated using this charm, it was actually their clothing that was being affected. The charm was apparently not strong enough to allow a human to do anything more that float a few feet off the air using this method, and therefore did not allow the true flight afforded to most other objects.
Almost anything could be lifted with this spell, although the object levitated depended on the skill of the caster and the weight of the object.
wand movement is swish and flick while saying the incantation Wingardium Leviosa

Lesson 6
(Reparo) Mending charm
The Mending Charm will repair broken objects with a flick of the wand. Accidents do happen, so it is essential to know how to mend our errors. The Mending Charm is effective at repairing most materials. However, damage caused by certain rare, powerful curses such as Fiendfyre were impossible to undo.
The charm is suitable for use only on inanimate objects. Use on living beings is entirely proscribed. Serious scarring could result if it were cast on a person or animal in an attempt to heal wounds. This charm does not seem to work on objects of powerful and complex magic, such as broken Vanishing Cabinets or wands.
To use this charm point your wand at the broken item and say the incantation Reparo.
